Lunch includes choices such as a tomato-and-mozzarella starter, veal with lemon, and a fruit tart. The optional truffle pasta adds $10. A premium starter and premium dessert each add another $5, so choosing all three additions takes a $40 lunch to $60.
Dinner changes the selection, with a clam pasta or breaded beef among the mains. A salmon choice adds $5 and the filet adds $10; there are also $5 additions in the opening and dessert courses. An included starter and dessert with the filet give a $75 subtotal.
An upgraded lunch at $60 sits only $5 below the $65 base dinner. That does not make dinner automatically better: the courses and available days differ. It does show why the real comparison should be between the orders you would choose, not between the two lowest advertised prices.
A Saturday plan versus a Sunday plan
On Saturday, make the lunch offer explicit when booking and confirm when the last eligible table can be seated. On Sunday, use the dinner schedule. If you planned a Sunday afternoon meal, do not relabel it brunch or assume the lunch offer carries over; request the actual menu available at that time.
For two people choosing base menus, lunch totals $80 and dinner totals $130 before charges. If both lunches carry all three example supplements, their subtotal becomes $120. The $50 headline gap between two base meals is then only $10, although the food remains different.
When the supplement is the point
If truffle pasta is the reason for booking, include its addition in the budget from the beginning. If it is only an impulse choice, read the included mains first. A prix-fixe menu helps you compare costs only while you keep track of the paid substitutions.
